Hall Farm HistoryAndrew Long and his family are the third generation to farm at Hall Farm.
Wounded while serving in the British Army, Colonel Gerald Long returned to the Fornham Estate, part of the Arundel empire, as a tenant. After his death in 1960, the freehold was bought by Robert Long and the farm extended to 865 acres. Further purchases of land now mean it spans 1300 acres. Andrew left college in 1982 and, with the support of his father, they took the bold step of installing irrigation systems to enable the growing of 40 acres of potatoes in the rotation of cereals, sugar beet and sheep. Today, Hall Farm produces more than 600 acres of potatoes for supermarkets such as Waitrose, Morrison’s and Tesco’s, in addition to 350 acres of onions, cereals and sugar beet. The Hall Farm team of experts have over 200 years’ experience between them, jointly headed up by Andrew Long and Farm Manager Paul Francis.
